Privacy policy

Moto Porch is a small, independently run site for motorcycle riders, based in Florida. This page explains what we collect, who can see it and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions? Email hello@motoporch.com.

The short version

We do not sell your personal information.
Your email address is not shown publicly.
What you post is public, except private messages.
We use one cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies.
You must be at least 18 to create an account.

What we collect

Your account: username, email address and a scrambled (hashed) version of your password. We cannot read your password.
What you post: forum threads and replies, events, for-sale listings, shop listings, photos and your profile photo.
Private messages you send or receive about a listing.
Reports you send about content, including who sent them.
Email signups: your address and which page you signed up from, when you request a checklist or Buyer's Kit.
Emails you send us.
Technical information: like most websites, ours receives information such as your IP address and browser type when you visit. Our hosting provider processes this to run and protect the site and may keep it in short-term logs.

How we use it

To run your account and show the content you post.
To deliver private messages.
To moderate the site, respond to reports, and prevent spam and abuse.
To answer you when you contact us, and to send password reset links when you ask for one.
To send the checklist or kit you asked for, and a few tips by email if we start sending them. Each email will explain how to stop.
To comply with the law.

Who can see what

Everyone, including people without an account and search engines, can see your username, profile photo, posts, events, listings and the photos you add. Do not post anything you want kept private.
The other person in a conversation can see your private messages.
The people running the site can access the information we store, including private messages, when needed to run the site, investigate a report or comply with the law. Private messages are not end-to-end encrypted.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information. We share it only in these cases:

Cloudflare hosts the site, its database and photos, forwards email sent to our address, and sends password reset emails.
Google hosts the mailbox that receives our email. It also supplies the site's fonts, so your browser contacts Google, which can see your IP address, when you load a page.
An email service, if we start sending email to subscribers, would receive your address to send it.
Authorities or others, when the law requires it or when needed to protect someone's safety. We report suspected child sexual exploitation as required by law.
A new owner, if the site is ever sold or transferred.

Links to other sites, such as shop websites, maps and affiliate partners, take you outside Moto Porch. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

Cookies

We use one cookie, which keeps you logged in for up to 30 days or until you log out. It is required for logging in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Your photos

We remove hidden location and camera data from photos when they are uploaded. Anything visible in the picture, like a license plate or a house number, stays visible, so check before you post.

How long we keep things

Photos: when you delete a post or replace or remove a photo, the file is permanently deleted from our storage. Browsers that already viewed it may keep showing it for up to a day.
Posts, listings and events: when you delete one, it is hidden from the site, but the text stays in our database unless you ask us to erase it. We keep it to handle reports and abuse.
Accounts, messages and email signups: we keep these until you ask us to delete them or we no longer need them.

Your choices

You can delete your posts, listings, events and profile photo yourself. To delete your account, correct your information, get a copy of it, erase deleted text or stop receiving email, write to hello@motoporch.com from the address on your account. There is no automatic account deletion yet, so we handle these by hand. We may keep what we must for legal reasons or to prevent abuse. Messages you sent someone else may remain in their conversation.

Security

We use encrypted connections and hash passwords, but no website is perfectly secure. Use a password you do not use anywhere else.

Age limit

Moto Porch is for adults. You must be at least 18 to create an account. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, email hello@motoporch.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will update the date at the top when this page changes, and we will post a notice on the site for significant changes.
