What to check on a Rebel 500
- Check the tank, mirrors, levers and footpegs for drop damage.
- Inspect the chain and sprockets.
- Ask about any suspension or seat changes and whether original parts come with it.
- Confirm whether it has ABS.
- On 2020 and newer, the clutch should feel very light. A heavy or grabby clutch needs a look.
Do these on top of the standard walkaround. The free kit has the full list.
Safety recalls
Recalls are fixed free by a dealer, but only if someone took the bike in. Ask the seller for proof, or have a dealer check the VIN. You can also check a VIN yourself at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
